Type E High-Dielectric Flange Isolation Systems

Type E High-Dielectric Flange Isolation Systems

The Engineering Problem:
When dissimilar metal pipes are connected or buried near electrical grids, a “battery effect” known as galvanic corrosion occurs. This electrochemical reaction dissolves metal from the inside out. In the U.S., DOT and PHMSA regulations strictly mandate the isolation of these assets to prevent catastrophic ruptures. Standard gaskets fail to stop this electrical flow, leading to rapid wall-thinning and federal safety violations.

Our Specialized Solution:
The Type E Isolation Kit is a “full-face” protection system that covers the entire flange face to the outside diameter. This design prevents conductive debris from accumulating in the gap and “bridging” the electrical circuit. We utilize G-10 Glass Reinforced Epoxy—an aerospace-grade material—to ensure the gasket maintains its dielectric integrity even under the massive torque loads required for Class 2500 high-pressure lines.

Ideal Applications:

  • Mylar Isolating Sleeves: Specifically sized to be slightly longer than the flange assembly to ensure the bolt never makes metal-to-metal contact with the pipe.
  • Dual-Washer Sets: Includes G-10 isolating washers and zinc-plated steel backup washers to distribute nut pressure without cracking the dielectric material.

Technical Specifications

  • Dielectric Strength: 750–800 Volts/Mil (ASTM D149).
  • Water Absorption: <0.10% (Critical for maintaining insulation in wet soil).
  • Standard Compliance: Exceeds NACE SP0286 requirements for cathodic protection.
  • Gasket Core: G-10 GRE with a spring-energized PTFE or Viton internal seal.
