Reinforced Flexible Graphite Sealing Elements with 316SS Tanged Core

Reinforced Flexible Graphite Sealing Elements with 316SS Tanged Core

The Engineering Problem:
In high-cycle steam environments or heavy-duty chemical processing, standard gaskets often suffer from “creep” or “blowout.” When pressure fluctuates, the gasket material can literally be pushed out of the flange, leading to catastrophic leaks, environmental fines, and facility downtime.

Our Specialized Solution:
This isn’t just a gasket; it’s a mechanical seal composite. By mechanically bonding high-purity flexible graphite to a 0.004” thick stainless steel tanged (perforated) core, we’ve created a product that offers the “soft” seal of graphite with the “hard” skeleton of steel. The “tangs” or metal teeth bite into the graphite, locking it in place. This ensures that even if bolt load is partially lost during a thermal cycle, the gasket remains anchored between the flange faces.

Ideal Applications:

  • Refining: High-pressure heat exchangers and distillation towers.
  • Power Generation: Main steam lines and boiler manhole covers.
  • Pulp & Paper: Black liquor piping and high-temperature digesters.

Technical Specifications

  • Purity: 98% Carbon (Ash content <2%; Leachable Chloride <50ppm).
  • Compressibility: 30–35% (ASTM F36).
  • Recovery: 15–20% (ASTM F36).
  • Creep Relaxation: <5% (ASTM F38).
